SUBJECT
An Ordinance authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement with the Cape Girardeau Public School District for the joint operation of a public swimming facility located at 520 Minnesota Avenue in the City of Cape Girardeau.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In 2019, the Cape Girardeau Public School District unveiled plans to construct a public swimming facility on the campus of Jefferson Elementary School located at 520 Minnesota Avenue in Cape Girardeau. The City of Cape Girardeau agreed to be a partner in the operation of the facility. The proposed agreement will guide both entities concerning specific responsibilities pertaining to the joint operation of the facility.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
In Fall 2021, City of Cape Girardeau and Public School District staff began meeting to discuss the development of an agreement for operation of the facility. Several meetings took place to develop an agreement that both entities felt was fair and balanced and represented both entities interests.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The City of Cape Girardeau will have expenses associated with operation of the facility. Overall operational expenses will be shared with the Public School District. Likewise, the City will receive operating revenue from the facility.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of the Ordinance authorizing the City Manager to execute this agreement.
